A Pendrell, a Snood and a Pussy Cat

So this weekend I have a few things to share with you. The first is my third snood (see the other two here). Previously I made a snug snood and then a much longer snood...well this one fits slap bang in the middle as a medium sized snood! I think this may be my favourite size yet - it wraps round twice and fits nice and snugly round my neck.

I just realised i am also modelling my new fringe here...I've actually had it for a while but i think this may be the first photographic evidence! Back to the knitting...I used two 50g balls of a chunky wool and cast on 100 stitches. I knitted the snood in moss stitch (knit one, purl one) using circular needles and just carried on until I was towards the end of the second ball of wool at which point i cast off. Full details on yarn etc can be found on my Ravelry page here. In this picture I have added a felt flower made using Marie from A Sewing Odyssey's excellent tutorial. I stuck a clip on the back so it is detachable.

This week i also made a muslin for the Pendrell Blouse, which was the first pattern from Sewaholic Patterns. I went for View A, which has a single pleated sleeve. I must point out that these sleeves are amazing...when you look at the strangely hexagonal pattern piece you think 'huh?' but it totally makes sense when you come to assemble them.

(Several attempts to get a picture in good light here! I really need to invest in a new camera....!)

I absolutely LOVE how this has turned out. It was my first attempt at princess seams and they are so flattering! I don't think i need to make any changes to the pattern at all, which is a first. This muslin was made out of an old sheet and it isn't obvious from the pictures but it is a bit faded and washed out so sadly not really wearable i public! I kind of wish I'd gone straight for fashion fabric now but I'm to chicken to not make a muslin! My chosen fabric for this is a print, but i really like how it looks here in a solid colour, plus this would give so many more wardrobe options! I have a feeling i will be making many of these. Also, this version is not hemmed and you can see that it it quite long on me...i can just about get away wearing it as a tunic-style top, so I can see that by modifying the pattern slightly it would be quite easy to turn this into a tunic or even a longer dress. In fact, Ashley is in the process of attempting something of the sort. So many options!

The final thing i would like to share with you is a couple of pictures of my new pussy cat, Sally, who we picked up this weekend!

She is a rescue cat and a little bit shy, but she seems to be slowly coming out of her shell...as i type this she is hiding under the bed in my sewing room, having just ran away from her own reflection. Bless!

I hope you have all had a lovely and productive weekend :)

  1. So much to comment on! Firstly, wow, I love your fringe! It suits you so much and you look totally hot!

Onto the makes now! The snood is brilliant (you know I can't get enough of them myself) and thanks for using and referencing my felt rose tutorial...the two go brilliantly together.

Your Pendrell is looking great and I honestly thought that this was your finished garment. The real deal's going to look amazing for sure, but I must say...please make one in this colour blue too, it looks stunning on you!

And Sally's too cute for words!

  3. 35 degree here today - just can't comment on a snood in this heat!!!

Love the Pendrell top on you, also didn't realise it was just a muslin to start with either. Follow Marie's advice on the colour. This style and colour is lovely on you. Looking forward to the 'real' Pendrell....

  4. Your Pendrell looks perfect and fits you so well. What a shame the sheet is faded as that's definitely a very wearable muslin! x

  5. Thanks everyone for your kind comments - Doobee64 i'm not surprised you find trouble contemplating snoods in that heat...i can't pretend i'm not a little bit jealous!

I am very disappointed this is not a wearble muslin, but i definitely plan to make a version 2 in a solid very soon :)
